UL Assurance Review

Published on November 3, 2022

Bettercoal is pleased to be working with UL Solutions on a comprehensive review of our assurance system. We undertook initial work on reviewing our assurance system in 2021, with some changes recommended by our Technical and Advisory Committee and agreed by the Bettercoal Board of Directors.

We appointed UL Solutions to complete this review of our assurance documentation and processes, covering all four stages of our Assurance processes: supplier commitment, desktop review, site assessment, and continuous improvement. The goal of this review is to identify any gaps in content and clarity in the documented assurance process, identify any opportunities for streamlining documentation and ensure best practice across our processes. We will be consulting with our Technical and Advisory Committee on this review process, ensuring multi-stakeholder input on the review and recommended changes.

Bettercoal’s framework for ‘continuous improvement’ applies just as much to our processes as it does to producers. It is with this in mind that we are conducting this review of our assurance system, to comply with ISEAL Code of Good Practice, to strengthen our processes and work towards a global responsible coal supply chain.
