Governance

The Bettercoal Programme is part of the Responsible Commodities Sourcing Initiative (RECOSI). RECOSI is governed by its members, who elect a Board of Directors to lead the organisation. The Technical & Advisory Committee, a multi-stakeholder body, is also critical to Bettercoal Programme governance, providing expertise and guidance on the Bettercoal Code. The day-to-day operations of the organisation are run and managed by the RECOSI Secretariat.

Technical & Advisory Committee (TAC)

The Technical and Advisory Committee (TAC) is a multi-stakeholder committee composed of individuals from civil society, Bettercoal Producers and RECOSI Members.

The TAC supports and advances the Bettercoal Programme’s purpose and values by reviewing, developing and ensuring the quality of the:

  • Bettercoal Code

  • assurance processes

  • impact assessment, and

  • reporting

The TAC supports the RECOSI Board by providing expert judgement, analysis and peer review of both the Bettercoal Code and stakeholder comments.

Secretariat

The Secretariat is led by its Executive Director, Katie Warrick, who is in charge of the daily management of Bettercoal Programme operations and reports to the RECOSI Board of Directors.

The Executive Director is supported by a dedicated team and together they focus on the implementation of the Bettercoal Code, the Producer Assessment Process and Assurance System Review, Bettercoal Programme Members’ Implementation and Reporting Obligations, communications and engaging with stakeholders.
