Bettercoal is pleased to welcome GKM as a Bettercoal Member.

Grosskraftwerk Mannheim AG operates hard-coal-fired power stations in Mannheim, Germany. It generates electricity for people, trade and industry, as well as district heat for the metropolitan area Rhein-Neckar using combined power and heat.

Katie Warrick, Bettercoal Executive Director, commented: “We are pleased to welcome GKM to our organisation. Bettercoal Members are critical in supporting our work towards a global responsible coal supply chain. Bettercoal has carried out 69 assessments in eight countries and we are looking forward to building on this and expanding our scope of work.”

Holger Weiss, Head of Materials Management at GKM, added: “We are aware of our responsibility towards a sustainable coal supply chain. We have followed the development of Bettercoal for many years and have seen continuous positive developments. We are convinced of the importance of collaborating with other companies in this area, engaging in dialogue with the affected producers and working on an increase of Bettercoal coal.”

GKM is jointly owned by its shareholders RWE Generation SE in Essen, EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG in Karlsruhe and MVV RHE GmbH in Mannheim. GKM is also an important supplier of single-phase railway power for DB Energie GmbH.
