Update on Ruvuma Coal Progress

Ruvuma Coal Ltd signed the Bettercoal Letter of Commitment in November 2022 to commit to undergoing a Bettercoal assessment of their operations. After undergoing desktop review and our initial assurance processes, they underwent independent assessment of their open cast mine in Tanzania in September 2023.  

Since the on-site assessment there have been significant operational changes at Ruvuma Coal, as a result of which Bettercoal will now need to carry out a new assessment in 2025. This ensures that the most recent advancements are accurately reflected in the site assessment report and continuous improvement plan, which sets out the actions they must take to the meet the standards of the Bettercoal Code 2.0. 

Further details on the 2025 assessment will be shared once the site assessment has taken place and the site report has been finalised.
