End of Sintracarbón strike at Cerrejón

Bettercoal is very pleased to see that Sintracarbón and Cerrejón have reached an agreement and signed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which ends the union’s strike at the mining company, started on the 31st August

We understand that this new CBA is for a period of 3.5 years (July 1st, 2020 through December 31st, 2023) and that operations restarted on the 1st December.

Bettercoal had been following the negotiations between Cerrejón and Sintracarbón throughout the 91-day strike period an actively engaged in communication with relevant parties and stakeholders to gain a better understanding of the concerns that have led to this strike being called.

We appreciate the efforts made by both parties in such challenging times in order to engage in dialogue and agree on a solution, and we value as well the participation of the Ministry of Labour and all other governmental and civil society organisations that supported the dialogue process to resolve this issue.

Bettercoal will be following the developments of the upcoming roundtables and keep engaging with key stakeholders on this matter.
