Bettercoal launches Public Assessment Reports

 Bettercoal has released its first Public Assessment Reports: Cerrejón Coal Company in Colombia and Siberian Business Union Coal in Russia. The Public Reports are based on the results of the Site-Assessments and on the Continuous Improvement Plans. Both can be accessed on their respective pages on the Bettercoal website.

Through the Public Reports, Bettercoal aims to:

  • Increase transparency of the results of the Assessment Process;
  • Enable improved dialogue between stakeholders in the coal supply chain;
  • Provide more relevant information the Colombia and Russia Country Working Groups.

Bettercoal will be publishing Public Reports for every coal mining company that has completed the Assessment Process and are at the Continuous Improvement step.

Bettercoal Executive Director Anne-Claire Howard said:

“We are very happy to launch the Public Reports for Cerrejón and Siberian Business Union Coal and finally be able to share insights into the Suppliers’ Assessments, providing a common frame of reference to foster dialogue between the stakeholders in the coal value chain. We believe that publishing Public Reports for the Suppliers going through the Bettercoal Assessment Process is an important step forward for our organisation and we look forward to regularly updating the progress being made against the Continuous Improvement Plans.”

Bettercoal is a global standards initiative established in 2012 by major coal buyers striving to promote continuous improvement of sustainability performance in their coal supply chain.
