Bettercoal approves assessment bodies eligible to undertake site-assessments
Bettercoal has approved an initial group of assessment bodies that will become eligible to conduct site-assessments at coal mines.
Following the development of its new Code and assessment toolkit, Bettercoal has moved to an operational phase engaging mining companies in its assessment program. Coal suppliers will be assessed against the Bettercoal Code which builds upon existing mining standards and recognizes current best practice in the industry. The approved independent 3rd-party assessors will perform on-site assessments against the Bettercoal Code.
List of approved assessors (alphabetical order) as of 28 May 2014:
To become an approved Bettercoal assessor, assessment bodies must fulfill the requirements of the Bettercoal Assessor Qualification and Selection Guidelines. Bettercoal’s assessor approval process follows the principles of ISEAL’s Code of Good Practice: Assuring Compliance with Social and Environment Standards Version 1.0 (the ISEAL Assurance Code).
