August Newsletter: Tracking impact and progress

A recent report by the University of Queensland studied 15 different sustainability certification schemes in the mining industry. We review this study below; an interesting fact: Bettercoal has been comparatively nimble in starting up. What is also clear is the industry’s ever growing need for standards.

In the spirit of a young organisation, our on-going learning process includes reporting and involving others. In July we published our first official Progress Report 2012-2014, found summarized on our website and available to download as a PDF.

Highlights of our report include details of how our Assessment program evolved, our plans for 2015, actions by members, testimonials from stakeholders, and a summary of where we fit in among other international mining sector standards. We wanted this to be a brief and comprehensive document that traced our activities and ambitions during the initial years, setting a marker from which to base future progress.
