Governance
Bettercoal is governed by its members, who elect a Board of Directors to lead the organisation. The Technical & Advisory Committee, a multi-stakeholder body, is also critical to the Bettercoal governance, providing expertise and guidance on the Bettercoal Code. The day to day operations of the organisation are run & managed by the Secretariat.

Technical & Advisory Committee
The Technical & Advisory Committee (TAC) is a multi-stakeholder committee composed of individuals from civil society, Bettercoal Suppliers and Bettercoal Members.
The TAC supports and advances Bettercoal’s purpose and values by reviewing, developing and ensuring the quality of the:
- Bettercoal Standard (the ‘Code’)
- assurance processes
- impact assessment, and
- reporting.
In regards to the development and regular reviewing of the Bettercoal Standard, the TAC support the Bettercoal Board by providing expert judgement, analysis and peer review of both the Bettercoal Standard and stakeholder comments on it.

Secretariat
The Bettercoal Secretariat is led by its Executive Director. Katie Warrick, who is in charge of the daily management of Bettercoal operations and reports to the Board of Directors.
The Executive Director is supported by a dedicated team and together they focus on the implementation of the Bettercoal Code, the Supplier Assessment Process and Assurance System Review, Bettercoal Members’ Implementation and Reporting Obligations, communications and engaging with stakeholders.
