Dirk joined Vattenfall in 2008 as a financial coal and freight trader in Copenhagen, when the company’s trading unit opened an office there to centralise the group’s global coal procurement and trading activities. After the acquisition of Dutch utility Nuon in 2013, he moved to the Amsterdam office to coordinate Vattenfall’s company-wide coal sourcing activities, and he became Vattenfall’s coal desk head in 2016.  Vattenfall relocated their Amsterdam trading operations to Hamburg in July 2017, which is where Dirk now resides.

Prior to joining Vattenfall, Dirk began his career in the banking industry, and then traded power and coal at German utility EnBW from 2003-2007.
